Dolima: good for me, good for my country!
Although 4Million people – 30% of Senegal’s population – are herders, almost all the milk drunk in Senegal is mixed up from powder imported. Bagoré Bathily, a Franco-Senegalese veterinary, saw struggling herders having to sell their animals at low prices to survive and decided to find a way to connect the milk producer to its drinkers. He founded in 2006 la Laiterie du Berger (French for the Herder’s dairy) to collect milk from local herders to ensure them a revenue and produce a healthy, affordable range of dairy products inspired by traditional recipes and sold under the brand Dolima.
Products are available in small shops and traditional retails, stored in branded “Dolima fridge”. However, products are not yet accessible everywhere in Senegal. To ensure a wider distribution of Dolima, La Laiterie du Berger needs more fridges. With 20 000€ invested, the social business can buy 40 fridges (500€ per fridge) and make the product available to more consumers in Senegal.
