Here is the story of Bassirou, a microentrepreneur supported by Babyloan. He started to sell rice thanks to Babyloan lenders.
Bassirou and his family live in the Rosso area, in the north of Senegal. This region is considered as the breadbasket of the country, since the land there is generously irrigated by the Senegal River, allowing for the creation of numerous employment opportunities in the agricultural sector, more specifically in relations to rice production. Bassirou intends to make the most of the situation and to keep developing the rice processing business that allows him to take good care of his wife, children, brothers and sisters.
I was able to use microcredit to purchase a workshop of my own and become self-employed!
The impact of microcredit on Bassirou’s life: Bassirou relies on microcredit for the biannual purchase of 17 bags of 80 kilos of natural rice, best-known as “paddy rice”, right after the harvests. Bassirou uses an old machine that he fixed up to separate the rice kernels from the grains. After the rice is processed, Bassirou is left with more than a dozen bags of white rice that is ready to be consumed and sold in Saint-Louis. This business is quite profitable and Bassirou can repay effortlessly the monthly installments of his loan!
