During their third year of studies, 3 students created The Green Wheels and performed a world tour on their bikes in order to show the positive effects of renewable energy throught microcredit. As green microfinance is booming and they are convinced that small local actions will have a wider global impact in the future, they went around to meet microentrepreneurs whose projects mix energy and microcredit.
Alexandra, 45, lives in Chiquibamba - an isolated village in the South of Peru. Her house is located 3,150 meters above sea level in the middle of the Andes. Having access to energy is therefore very challenging because of an obvious lack of adapted infrastructures. Thanks to a friend of hers, Alexandra heard of Fondesurco - Babyloan's partner Microfinance Institution.
Thanks to my equipment, my grandparents, children and friends have access to a clean source of energy!
After microcredit
Thanks to the microcredit she was granted, Alexandra was able to buy products to answer her energetic needs while preserving the environment. She now owns an improved oven to cook easily without harming her health, and which allows her to use less firewood. A lot of caterers use this type of oven in their restaurants.
Moreover, she decided to puchase a solar water heater 5 years ago, which is installed on the roof of her house and provides hot water to the 8 people living there: "The heat is preserved into the tubes of the appliance, so that my children can have hot water without harming their health".
All these equipments allow Alexandra and her relatives to have a good access to clean energy, while lightening her expenses and watch her family's health.
