RMCR (Réseau de Micro-Institutions de Croissance et de Revenus – Network of micro-institutions for growth and income) is a microfinance institution created in May 2000 by World Vision Mali (WVM) in partnership with the BADS (Bureau d’Assistance et de Développement Social - Office of Assistance and Social Development) and the AMAFEP (l’Association Malienne des Femmes Protestantes - Malian Association of Protestant Women). RMCR is a NGO. Its strategy is to create offices for growth and income in World Vision Mali’s areas of intervention in order to mobilise the savings of the beneficiaries and to offer them microcredit services.
Since the beginning of the operations, RMCR is under supervision of VisionFund International (VFI), which is in charge of all microfinance institutions of World Vision International’s network. VFI is still RMCR’s main technical and financial partner.
Following the social mission of World Vision NGO, RMCR’s mission is to increase Malian families’ incomes in order to offer more promising futures to children. Thanks to a dense network of branches in rural areas, RMCR serves poor and agricultural populations who carry out agricultural, fattening, breeding and business activities. RMCR targets women and young people, populations considered too risky by other MFIs of the country.
RMCR offers only one credit product, with three possibilities: community fund, solidarity group credit and individual credit. Credit for groups (community fund of solidarity group) is the most frequent one and represents 94% of the credit portfolio. The credit product is then offered to 10 main activities: agriculture, breeding, fattening, retail trade, wholesale trade, storage, crafts, services, purchase of equipment and hotel & restaurants. Agriculture is the most frequent activity and represents 91% of the MFI’s credit portfolio. The loan amounts are adapted to the customers’ needs and are between 45 and €4,500.
RMCR’s clients can enrol in social programmes given by World Vision Mali NGO. These programmes cover the following themes: education, access to drinking water, hygiene… Moreover, clients follow one hour of training per day during four days before disbursement of the credit. This training concerns credit management and solidary responsibility between members of a group.
